Floods in Oman Kill 5 People

At least 5 people were killed in the past 24 hours in Oman after floods swept their cars away, as reported by the country’s authorities on Monday.

The Omani Search and Rescue sector with the National Committee for Emergency Management stated that the teams managed to rescue 7 individuals after the floods swept away a car carrying 10 people in a valley in Barka, while the bodies of 3 others were found later.

According to the sector, among the recorded incidents, in a separate event, two citizens were swept away after their vehicle was trapped in a stream in Wadi Al Maawil in South Al Batinah Province, where they were later found deceased.

The authorities mentioned that the fatalities occurred during a time when parts of the country are experiencing heavy rainfall.

Oman has experienced floods that led to casualties in recent years, including in April 2024, when the floods killed at least 20 people and flooded extensive areas.

The region is undergoing some weather fluctuations, as Qatar witnessed, on Monday dawn, thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and high waves.
