Khaberni - Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said on Sunday that elements of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard are managing Hezbollah operations in the ongoing war with Israel.
Salam once again criticized Hezbollah for dragging Lebanon into the ongoing war in the Middle East by launching missiles at Israel.
Salam said “I have named this war as one of revenge for the assassination of Khamenei,” referring to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei who was killed on the first day of the American-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28.
Salam continued, “If this means war, it has been imposed on us.”
In reference to an Iranian drone strike that hit a British military base in Cyprus earlier this month, Salam emphasized that the Revolutionary Guard launched the drones from Lebanon to Cyprus.
He pointed out that the Revolutionary Guard “is present (in Lebanon), and sadly manages the military operations.”
He added, “These individuals have counterfeit passports and entered the country illegally.”
An Iranian-made drone previously hit a British military base in Cyprus earlier this month. Nicosia then "suggested" that Hezbollah, not Iran, had launched it from Lebanese territory.
Salam considered the announcement by the Revolutionary Guard of conducting joint and coordinated operations with Hezbollah against Israel as proof that it is leading the war in Lebanon.
This month, the Lebanese government decided to ban any activities of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in Lebanon.
The government also decided to ban Hezbollah’s military and security activities, and called on the party to turn over its weapons to the state.
On Sunday Salam said: “We are committed to the decisions we have taken and are working on implementing them.”
