Iraq Three Strikes on Popular Mobilization Forces Locations

Khaberni - Sites affiliated with the Popular Mobilization Forces in the Jurf al-Sakhar (Jurf al-Nasr) area in central Iraq were hit by three strikes this Sunday evening, but they did not result in any injuries, according to local authorities.

The Crisis Media Cell in Babylon province, central Iraq, briefly stated that "units of the Popular Mobilization Forces in Jurf al-Nasr were attacked by drones and warplanes, where three strikes were carried out at different locations," but confirmed no injuries were recorded among members of the Popular Mobilization Forces, as the headquarters were empty.

The Popular Mobilization Authority is an official Iraqi military and security agency, established in 2014 in response to a fatwa issued by religious authority Ali al-Sistani to confront the Islamic State at the time, before it was formally integrated into the army by an official decree in 2016.

The attacks came after the Diplomatic Support Center affiliated with the US Embassy, located in the complex of Baghdad International Airport, was attacked from Saturday night to Sunday morning, as confirmed by an official in the Iraqi Joint Operations Command.

A senior security official speaking to Agence France-Presse said, "Evacuation operations of the center are underway to evacuate the staff out of the country."

When asked on Friday about the possibility of evacuating the embassy and consulate staff, a spokesman for the US State Department said, "The US mission in Iraq continues its work despite the departure order, to assist American citizens in Iraq and support the foreign policy priorities of the US administration."

He added, "Our team in Iraq continues to review all necessary measures to enhance the safety of US government employees and facilities."

The Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades pledged, at dawn on Thursday, to stop targeting the Washington embassy for "5 days" under conditions which are "the cessation of the Zionist entity from displacing and bombing the southern suburb of Beirut, committing to not bomb residential areas in Baghdad and the provinces, and withdrawing CIA elements from their positions and stopping them inside the embassy."

It affirmed, "If the enemy does not comply, the response will be direct and concentrated, with an increase in the frequency of strikes after the end of the period," however, since that announcement, no attack on the US embassy has been observed.

Iranian-backed Iraqi factions known as "The Islamic Resistance in Iraq" launch daily attacks with drones and missiles on US bases in Iraq and the region.

In contrast, the US Department of Defense (Pentagon), on Thursday, acknowledged for the first time that combat helicopters carried out raids against factions loyal to Tehran, within the context of the war waged by Israel and the United States against Iran since February 28.
