New feature from WhatsApp allows instant message translation

Khaberni - In preparation for its launch, the popular messaging app "WhatsApp" is testing a new feature that enables automatic and instant translation of messages within conversations on iPhones.

The feature appeared in a beta version of the app on iPhones via the "TestFlight" platform in the "App Store," and included a new option within each conversation called "Translate Messages," allowing all incoming messages to be automatically translated as soon as it is activated.

When the feature is activated, the user selects the original language of the messages and the target language for translation, allowing new messages to be translated immediately upon their arrival without the need for any manual intervention, currently required by pressing and holding the message then choosing the translation option.

It is expected that the feature will support the translation of entire conversations, whether in individual or group chats, provided that the participants use the same language, according to "the tech portal" site.

The feature relies on translation packages existing in the devices, and it operates directly locally in them without sending data to external servers, which ensures that translations remain within the device’s scope, maintaining the full encryption mechanism between two parties, thus enhancing the level of privacy and security.

The languages currently supported include Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Russian, Turkish, and others, totaling up to 21 languages. It is likely that support will gradually expand by adding new languages later on.

WhatsApp has not yet revealed an official date for the launch of the feature; as it is still under testing within the beta versions, meaning its final availability will depend on the outcomes of these tests and upcoming developments.
