Khaberni - The artificial intelligence system at the American technology company "Meta Platforms" lost control, which led to the disclosure of sensitive data related to the company and users to employees not authorized to access it.
A company report on the incident mentioned that a Meta employee posted a request for help with a technical issue on an internal forum – a routine procedure. However, another engineer asked the artificial intelligence system to analyze the question, prompting the system to publish a response without the engineer's permission before sharing it.
It turned out that the artificial intelligence system did not provide sound advice, as the employee who asked the question took specific actions based on the system's guidance, unintentionally allowing massive amounts of company and user data to be accessed by engineers not authorized to access it, for two hours.
Meta classified the incident as a "Category 1" severity, which is the second-highest level of risk in the company’s internal system for measuring security issues.
Uncontrolled artificial intelligence systems have previously posed a problem at Meta; Summer You, the director of safety and coordination at "Meta SuperIntelligence", posted on the social media site "X" last month describing how her automated program "Open Callo" deleted her entire inbox, despite her asking it to verify with her before taking any action.
Nevertheless, it seems that Meta is optimistic about the potential of artificial intelligence; last week, it acquired "Multbook", a social networking platform similar to "Reddit", specifically designed for "Open Callo" programs to communicate with each other.
