Khaberni - The Standards and Metrology Institution announced the continuation of inspection tours and receiving complaints throughout the Eid al-Fitr holiday, in an effort to control the markets and ensure the safety and quality of the products offered therein, as well as to protect consumer rights.
The institution stated in a press release on Thursday that the legal actions issued during the holy month amounted to 229 actions, including 128 decisions of confiscation and destruction of non-compliant products, featuring 3850 pieces of non-compliant children's toys, 1230 electrical extensions, and more than 1000 decoration ropes, in addition to 350 pieces of non-compliant gas cookers.
The legal actions also included the issuance of 70 decisions to refer non-compliant facilities to judicial authorities, issuing warnings to 16 establishments, and 8 decisions to ban sales, alongside 7 decisions to withdraw non-compliant products from the markets.
It indicated that the institution’s inspection teams worked throughout the holy month on implementing hundreds of tours, as well as dealing with 10900 customs declarations, conducting 9800 laboratory tests for various materials, verifying 3000 products, and visiting about a thousand economic establishments.
The inspection teams will continue during the holiday to verify weights and measures and pre-packaged containers, clothing and toy shops, in addition to continuing tours at fuel stations and tankers and gas cylinder distributors, across the provinces and districts of the kingdom.
The institution emphasized that it will not be lenient in controlling any violations of the Standards and Metrology Law No. (22) of 2000 and its amendments, and the regulations and instructions issued under it, affirming taking the necessary legal actions against violators.
