Israel officially confirmed the successful assassination of the Secretary of the Supreme Council for National Security in Iran, Ali Larijani, and senior officials in the Iranian regime, in raids conducted last night, according to "Channel 12" Hebrew news today, Tuesday.

Earlier, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation and "Maariv" newspaper reported that the Israeli army attempted to assassinate Ali Larijani on Monday, while Israeli media indicated that the army is investigating whether Larijani was killed in last night's raids.

Who is Larijani?

Ali Ardeshir Larijani was born in 1958 in Najaf, Iraq, where his father had immigrated during that period. He comes from a wealthy family, originally from Larijan region in Amol city, Iran.

Ali Larijani’s father, Mirza Hashemi Amoli, was one of the most prominent religious figures known and one of the scholars of the scientific Hawza, where he worked as a teacher.

Ali Larijani returned to Iran with his family in 1961, and when he was twenty, he married Farideh Motahari, daughter of the scholar and reference Ayatollah Morteza Motahari, one of the close loyalists to the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ruhollah Khomeini, and they had 4 children: Sarah, Fatemeh, Morteza, and Mohammad.

Ali Larijani completed his primary and secondary education in the city of Qom, Iran, and then continued his high school education at Haghani School.

He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science from Sharif University of Technology in 1979, ranking first in his field.

He also earned a master's and a PhD in Western philosophy from the University of Tehran, and his doctorate thesis was on the German philosopher Immanuel Kant.

Larijani is a influential political figure in the Iranian regime, playing a significant role in many political and strategic decisions. He took over as the Secretary-General of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran in August 2025.

Larijani has been a prominent figure in the Iranian political scene for decades; he held many sensitive and influential positions in the Iranian government, including as senior advisor to Iran's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and Secretary of the National Security Council between 2005 and 2007, and then chaired the Parliament (Majlis) for three consecutive terms from 2008 to 2020.

It is noteworthy that Larijani appeared in a video speech broadcast by official television on the first of March this year, following American-Israeli strikes that assassinated prominent Iranian leaders, including the leader Ali Khamenei, to affirm that the Secretary of the National Security Council stated that their country "will teach the United States and Israel a lesson they will not forget."
