Maha Ali Rejects Equalizing Early Retirement Contributions Between Women and Men

Khaberni -  Maha Ali, president of the Jordanian National Commission for Women's Affairs, rejected the equalization of the number of required contributions for obtaining early retirement between women and men.

During a parliamentary meeting on Tuesday, Ali stated that women are important partners in the labor market and that a legislative environment conducive to the labor market should be provided to prevent their withdrawal from it.

She added that the specific circumstances that women face should be considered to enhance their participation in the labor market, pointing out that women need to strengthen their social protection umbrella to ensure their stability and security.

Ali emphasized the necessity to leave the decision to women to choose whether to remain in the labor market after reaching retirement age while ensuring the continuation of their social security contributions and their institution's continuation of paying these contributions.

She explained that women insured by the social security who are heads of their households and breadwinners should be allowed to withdraw from their savings account for purposes like healthcare or education.
