Khaberni - The Syrian capital imposed restrictions on selling alcoholic beverages and confined it to a number of neighborhoods.
The Damascus Governorate stated in a declaration that it was decided to "prohibit the serving of alcoholic drinks in restaurants and nightclubs in the city of Damascus," referring to "a series of complaints, at the request of the local community, and with the aim of eliminating behavior that violates public morals."
It added, "the permission to sell sealed alcoholic drinks is restricted exclusively to (Bab Toma, Qassa'a, Bab Sharqi) and only in shops specifically designated in the commercial building license."
It also imposed that alcohol sale stores be at least 75 meters away from mosques, churches, schools, and cemeteries, and at least 20 meters away from police stations and government offices.
The Damascus authorities gave alcohol stores three months to comply with the new rules.
