Khaberni – Samsung Electronics recently announced the launch of the Digital Home Key feature in Samsung Wallet. The new feature is based on the Aliro standard, the unified protocol for access to smart locks, which enables the opening of smart door locks connected to the Galaxy system using the app. The new feature is available starting this month, expanding the capabilities of the digital key in the app to include homes alongside vehicles, and provides an easy and secure way for users to open their home doors.
Commenting on this matter, the Executive Vice President and Head of the Digital Wallet Team at the Mobile Experience sector at Samsung Electronics, Wontchul Chai, said: "We continue to work on developing Samsung Wallet, while also ensuring to provide the finest and most reliable user experiences for our smart devices, as they are the fundamental pillar of all our innovations. The feature offers the highest levels of security and ease of use that meet the expectations of Samsung Wallet users in Galaxy devices, which we developed in close collaboration with our partners, in line with the advanced Aliro standard for security."
Samsung Wallet provides a unified and secure platform for storing essential items such as payment cards, personal ID cards, transit passes, and digital keys. With the launch of the Digital Home Key feature, the app can now provide easy access to both vehicles and homes, smoothly integrating with Galaxy devices to support various daily activities for users.
By completing the smart door lock settings in the SmartThings app using the global Matter standard for smart homes, the Digital Home Key feature can be added to Samsung Wallet during the lock setup process. Users can open the door by touching the smart receiver with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, by direct hands-free access using Ultra Wide Band (UWB) proximity sensing technology, or remotely using the app; depending on the device and lock capabilities.
The Digital Home Key feature in Samsung Wallet is based on the Aliro standard, an industry-standard communication protocol developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) to provide secure and interoperable digital keys for smart locks. Samsung is collaborating with top brands in the smart lock industry to support the Digital Home Key feature, including companies like Aqara, Nuki, Schlage, and Xthings.
The digital home keys are securely stored within Samsung Wallet on the smart device, where they are protected by the leading security platform, Samsung Knox. This feature is designed to comply with EAL6+ security certification standards, providing strong protection against unauthorized access to the digital keys.
This advanced level of protection allows the user to control the Digital Home Key even in case of loss of their smart device, as they can manage access to the key or remove it remotely using the Samsung Find service, while biometric authentication or PIN authentication in Samsung Wallet ensures that the keys are used only by authorized users.
Availability
The rollout of the Digital Home Key feature in Samsung Wallet began in specific regions starting March 2026, and it is scheduled to expand in line with the launch schedules of the brands developing smart locks.
