Khaberni - A Yemeni young man killed his brother by shooting him early this Monday morning during the Tahajjud prayer in a mosque in Ibb Governorate, located in areas controlled by the Houthi militia, in the north of the country.
According to Yemeni sources, the crime took place in the "Alsahool" area of Al-Makhader directorate, Ibb Governorate, where the perpetrator shot his older brother in the head inside the mosque, causing panic and shock among the worshippers.
The sources mentioned that the gunshot killed the victim’s brother instantly, while the perpetrator tried to flee from the crime scene, but the locals managed to capture him later and handed him over to the regional police.
Meanwhile, local reports stated that the reasons and motives behind the crime are still unknown at this moment, amid demands from the residents of the rural town to impose the severest legal penalties on the perpetrator who took his brother's life and violated the sanctity of God's house.
In recent years, the rates of family crimes in Yemen have risen to unprecedented levels, amid UN warnings indicating that more than 7 million Yemenis need support and psychological treatment, due to the ongoing armed conflict in the country, and the exacerbation of its economic and living pressures on a society facing one of the largest humanitarian crises worldwide.
