Reasons for Increased Heart Rate

Khaberni - Dr. Oxana Rotar reports that aging, stress, and bad habits can lead to an increased heart rate, thus increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
According to her, the heart rate is an important indicator of cardiovascular health. The normal range for healthy people is between 60 and 90 beats per minute, but various factors including age, fitness, hormonal changes, and internal diseases may influence an elevation.

She says: "Heart rate can be a non-invasive indicator of the risk of infections and vascular incidents. Heart rate is an independent predictor of mortality from cardiovascular diseases and all causes, with every 20 beat increase per minute resulting in 30-50 percent increase in mortality".

Furthermore, the doctor emphasizes that a high heart rate isn't only a result of illness but also results from unhealthy habits such as smoking, excessive consumption of energy drinks, or alcohol addiction. Stress also stimulates the secretion of hormones that contribute to an increased heart rate and elevated blood pressure levels.

She says: "If the condition does not improve with lifestyle changes (or if the patient fails to adhere to them), and if cardiovascular diseases or other organ diseases are ruled out, and the patient still complains of palpitations, then only the specialist doctor can prescribe medication to lower the heart rate, based on each case".

According to her, patients often suffer from simultaneous increases in blood pressure and heart rate during severe psychological and emotional stress, hence comprehensive pharmacological treatment may be necessary. Current clinical guidelines prioritize fixed-dose drug combinations in a single tablet because this approach promotes better compliance with treatment.
