Cancellation of the Finalissima Cup match between Argentina and Spain in Qatar

Khaberni  - The European Football Union announced the cancellation of the match between the champions of Europe and South America, known as "Finalissima", between Spain and Argentina which was set to take place in Qatar later this month due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The European Football Union said in a statement: "The European Football Union and the organizers are deeply disappointed that circumstances and timing prevented the teams from competing for this prestigious award in Qatar, a country that has repeatedly proven its ability to organize world-class international events at modern and advanced facilities."

The European Union expressed its deep gratitude to the organizing committee and the relevant authorities in Qatar for the work done in an attempt to host the match, and it believes that peace will return to the region soon, according to the statement.

The match was scheduled to be held on March 27, 2026, at the Lusail Stadium which hosted the final match of the 2022 World Cup between Argentina and France, where the "Tango" team won.

The competition between the champions of the two continents was revived in 2021 when UEFA and the South American Football Confederation "CONMEBOL" opposed FIFA's plans to hold the World Cup every two years.

Argentina led by Lionel Messi won 3-0 against Italy in the match held in 2022 at the famous Wembley Stadium in the British capital, London.
