Abu Aqqoula Explains Details of Attack on Jordanian Trucks in Syria

Khaberni  - The head of the freight forwarding and transportation companies, Daifallah Abu Aqqoula, mentioned that the reason a number of Jordanian trucks were attacked at the Syrian Nassib border crossing is the decision to allow Jordanian trucks to cross into Syrian territory, which angered the Syrian truck owners.

Abu Aqqoula explained on Friday that Syrian truck owners had previously benefitted from cross-border transfers described as "back to back," but the recent Jordanian-Syrian agreement allowed the passage of Jordanian trucks across Syrian lands.

The chief further clarified that the Jordanian-Syrian agreement aimed at facilitating the transit of Jordanian trucks to Syrian ports for loading and unloading operations, and similarly for Syrian trucks to the Aqaba port for the same operations, angered the Syrian truck owners.

Jordan and Syria agreed on Thursday to allow only Jordainian trucks carrying Jordanian-origin goods to enter Syria, and similarly, only Syrian trucks carrying Syrian-origin goods to enter Jordan, without conducting cross-border transfer operations.

Abu Aqqoula revealed that the damages suffered by Jordanian trucks, which crossed on Friday from the Nassib border, were minor before the intervention of Syrian security forces.

Abu Aqqoula demanded the implementation of the decision to have security forces accompany the cargo convoys.

Abu Aqqoula stated that the circumstances affecting the movement of maritime shipping globally and in the Middle East region necessitate facilitating the procedures of land crossing between all countries to achieve economic integration in all aspects.

The head of the freight forwarding companies indicated that the trucking sector has been significantly affected by the Iran war.

He said that shipping costs have increased fourfold due to the ongoing war, noting that global shipping companies "have insanely raised prices, exploiting these circumstances."
