Khaberni - Mazen Aloush, Director of Relations at the Syrian Public Authority for Ports and Customs, confirmed that the decision, which was agreed upon between the Syrian and Jordanian sides in the framework of organizing the movement of goods and facilitating their flow between the two countries, is exclusively limited to Jordanian trucks that carry Jordanian-origin goods while other goods coming through Jordan or from other countries remain subjected to the transfer procedures established at the borders as has been the practice previously without any change.
Aloush stated in a press statement on Friday: "The decision, for the first time, opens wider prospects for Syrian drivers and trucks, as it was agreed to allow Syrian trucks loaded with Syrian-origin goods to enter Jordanian territory directly without transfer, enabling them to reach the Aqaba port to carry out loading and unloading operations."
Aloush explained that this allows Syrian trucks to enter loaded with Syrian goods and return from Aqaba loaded with other goods, positively reflecting on the drivers' work and increasing their opportunities for employment and transport.
Aloush emphasized that the General Authority for Ports and Customs has always been and remains the most diligent entity in defending the interests of Syrian drivers, addressing their issues, and has been actively presenting their demands directly in various meetings and bilateral talks, based on our conviction that the Syrian driver is an essential partner in the movement of trade and transport between countries.
Aloush noted that the goal of this step is to stimulate the movement of land transport and trade exchange between Syria and Jordan, to create greater employment opportunities for drivers and transport companies, in addition to speeding up the arrival of goods to the markets and reducing costs and time, which positively reflects on the trade and economy of both countries.
Aloush affirmed that the General Authority for Ports and Customs will remain in constant contact with the drivers and the activities involved in the transport sector, considering that the interest of the Syrian driver remains a primary priority in all the actions and regulations we undertake, contributing to enhancing the activity of this vital sector and improving working conditions within it.
In a meeting held on Thursday at the authority building, President of the General Authority for Ports and Customs Qutaiba Badawi and the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Al-Qudah discussed and agreed upon facilitating the passage of Syrian trucks to Aqaba port to perform loading and unloading operations, as well as facilitating the entry of Jordanian trucks into Syrian ports to undertake the same operations.
