Khaberni - Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Engineer Yaarub Qudah, yesterday Thursday in Damascus, discussed with the President of the Syrian General Authority for Ports and Customs, Qutaiba Badawi, a number of economic and commercial files of mutual interest between the two brotherly countries.
The meeting addressed ways to enhance the movement of trade between Jordan and Syria, where both parties emphasized their keenness to facilitate the entry of goods and products between the two countries, and to ensure the smooth transit of them with flexible procedures that contribute to supporting trade activity between them.
An agreement was reached to facilitate the transit of Jordanian trucks to Syrian ports for loading and unloading operations, as well as the transit of Syrian trucks to the port of Aqaba for the same operations, which contributes to enhancing integration in the transportation and logistics services sector and opens broader prospects for regional trade movement.
The two parties discussed the current conditions in the region and the challenges they impose on the movement of transport and trade, where an agreement was reached to allow the entry of Jordanian trucks carrying goods of Jordanian origin only into Syria, and similarly, allowing Syrian trucks carrying goods of Syrian origin only to enter Jordanian territory, without transfer operations at the borders; this is to facilitate the movement of goods and accelerate their arrival to the markets.
During the meeting, the importance of benefiting from the distinguished geographical location of both countries was emphasized, and working on developing cooperation mechanisms that contribute to transforming them into regional centers for goods assembly and re-export to the Gulf and European markets, which would enhance trade movement and invigorate the transportation and logistics services sector.
The two parties also agreed on the necessity of continuing joint coordination to face the impacts of regional conditions on trade movement and supply chains, ensuring the smooth movement of goods transportation, securing market needs, and facilitating import and export operations according to the systems and procedures adopted in both countries.
