Roots First When We Preserve Our Memory We Forge Our Future
الكاتب: الدكتور زيد احمد المحيسن

In a world where steps are quickened and cultures, images, and narratives crowd each other, clinging to our roots becomes a civilized act with no turning back. Nations that know where they came from, certainly know where they are heading to. And roots are not a stagnant past we keep in the vaults of memory; they are a living energy that renews itself in our consciousness, beats in our language, and appears in the features of our cities, our clothes, our songs, our proverbs, in the names of streets and villages, and in the stories that grandparents tell to grandchildren. From the pink rocks of Petra that witnessed the genius of ancient Jordanian man to the columns of Jerash still telling the tale of a vibrant city, from the sands of Wadi Rum stretching like an open poem towards the horizon, to the shores of the Dead Sea that hold the secrets of nature, a national canvas called Jordan is formed; a country that has never been transient in history, but rather a maker of it. Preserving our roots is not cultural indulgence nor a sentimental longing for the past, but a national necessity that enhances self-confidence, fortifies the community against dissolution and estrangement, and gives its children a firm sense of belonging. When we document our tangible and intangible heritage, maintain our national symbols that have contributed to the state's building, preserve the names of our places and their stories, and take pride in our local dialects as a true expression of our rich diversity, we are not just preserving the past, but also shaping a more balanced and conscious future. Roots make modernity more robust and make development a natural extension of our history, not a break from it. When a young person reads about the heroics of his country, listens to the tales of his place, and understands the meanings of words that echoed in his grandparents' homes, he discovers that his identity is not a burden, but a source of inspiration and strength. The project of preserving our roots is an open invitation to every individual, regardless of their position or interest, to be a partner in safeguarding the memory of the nation; the teacher documents, the student researches, the artist creates, the media illuminates, and the family narrates and preserves. With this integration, the nation becomes an open book that we all write, page by page, with confidence and pride. When we preserve our roots, we do not stop at the boundaries of yesterday, but lay the foundation for a more stable and clear tomorrow; a tomorrow where every Jordanian knows he has a history to rely on, an identity to be proud of, and a future to shape with awareness and responsibility..
