FrameSync Feature Meta Addresses the Challenge of Motion Sickness in Virtual Reality

Khaberni - Meta announced an innovative feature called FrameSync, aimed at improving the experience for Quest virtual reality glasses users and reducing the feeling of nausea caused by image fragmentation during movement.

However, the company emphasized that the success of the feature will largely depend on developer participation and the compatibility of their applications with this new technology.

FrameSync works to adjust the frame rate more stably compared to the current PhaseSync technology, ensuring smoother movement and a better frame rate.

This smoothness reduces jitters and visual fragmentation, making the scene more stable, especially when navigating through complex three-dimensional environments, which is a key factor for a comfortable virtual reality experience.

One of the most significant issues facing virtual reality users is recurring old frames, which can cause noticeable disruption during movement.

The new feature provides better frame prediction, reducing the recurrence of old frames and their annoying sequence, and ensures a smoother experience without visual confusion.

Faster response between movement and image
The feature not only controls the frame rate but also works to reduce the response time between user movement and visual update on the screen, making interactions more direct and natural.

This delay is a major cause of discomfort or motion sickness, especially for sensitive individuals, as any delay, even a slight one, can be annoying or painful.

Developer participation is essential for the success of the feature
FrameSync will be offered as a default option for all applications on the Horizon store starting from version 203. However, developers have the opportunity to test the feature in version 201 and ensure their applications are compatible with the new system.

If there is incompatibility, developers can opt out and stick with PhaseSync to ensure the stability of their applications before fully transitioning to the new feature.
