Khaberni - Navigational data from the ship tracking platform MarineTraffic showed a mass exodus of ships and oil tankers from Fujairah port in the UAE, following a security incident in the area this morning.
The data on the movement of ships during the attack shows a large number of ships and tankers leaving the port at a similar time, heading towards nearby maritime gathering areas near the Strait of Hormuz.
Al Jazeera’s Open Source Unit observed that at least 60 ships and oil tankers left Fujairah port simultaneously, indicating preemptive action taken by the ships operating in the port.
MarineTraffic platform said in a statement, quoting industrial sources, that the loading operations of oil products at Fujairah’s oil tanker station were temporarily halted after parts of the main infrastructure were damaged.
Fujairah port is one of the most important oil and strategic ports in the Gulf and the Middle East region, due to its unique location on the Gulf of Oman outside the Strait of Hormuz, making it a vital point for oil exports and providing ships with fuel away from the more sensitive navigational passages in the Gulf.
