Khaberni - Asad Al-Qawasmi, a member of the Amman Chamber of Commerce board of directors, stated on Monday that there is a sufficient stock of clothing and footwear to last until the upcoming Eid al-Adha, adding that the current season has not been affected by the Israeli-American war with Iran in terms of prices.
Al-Qawasmi explained to "Al-Mamlaka" that the prices of clothing and footwear are stable compared to previous seasons, and there is intense competition among traders which enhances the promotions and discounts offered.
He noted that the increase in shipping rates from exporting countries due to the increased cost of shipping insurance has not affected the season due to the existing stock with the traders.
He affirmed that the continuation of the local industry, along with open trade lines for the clothing sector from Egypt and Turkey, can meet the market needs for a long period, even if there are obstacles in the sea routes.
Regarding the purchasing power of clothing and footwear this season, Al-Qawasmi described it as the "weakest" since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, pointing out the importance of this season during the year to "clear previous accumulations."
He clarified that the purchasing power during the month of Ramadan usually begins after the 15th of Ramadan, but this year the season continues to be modest.
He suggested that the reason for the weak purchasing season is the situation in the region, delay in receiving salaries, in addition to the overlap of the summer season with the winter season, as traders decided to display spring merchandise.
