Khaberni - French President Emmanuel Macron spoke by phone on Sunday to both his American counterpart Donald Trump and the Iranian Masoud Bezishkian, on the eve of his trip to Cyprus amidst the war in the Middle East.
The French President, the first Western official to speak to Bezishkian since the outbreak of the war, said in a post on platform X, "I emphasized the necessity for Iran to immediately stop its strikes against countries in the region."
He pointed out that "Iran must also ensure the freedom of navigation through ending its closure of the Strait of Hormuz."
Macron did not reveal any details related to the conversation with Trump.
Since February 28, Israel and the United States have been conducting airstrikes on Iran that resulted in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Since then, Tehran has responded by striking Israel and countries in the region with missiles and drones.
Iran has imposed a naval blockade on the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz and targeted oil tankers attempting to pass through it.
On the night of March 1-2, Hezbollah fired several missiles from Lebanon targeting northern Israel, in response to the assassination of Khamenei, dragging Lebanon into an open war with Israel, where the latter has carried out devastating raids on Lebanese territory.
