Khaberni - A member of the Iranian Leadership Experts Council confirmed that the vote to select the new Iranian supreme leader has been completed, indicating that the final result is now under review.
Furthermore, a member of the council stated to "Mehr Agency" on Sunday that circumstances prevented the public and in-person selection of the leader.
He emphasized that the name Khamenei would remain as a leader of Iran, in reference to the supreme leader Ali Khamenei who was killed on the first day of the American-Israeli attacks on February 28.
He added that most council members support Mojtaba Khamenei to succeed his late father Ali Khamenei as the new leader.
In turn, the Vice President of the Experts Council clarified that the final report on the selection of the leader will be announced soon.
These statements came after the Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, stressed today, on Sunday, that Tehran "does not allow anyone to interfere" in its internal affairs regarding choosing a successor for the leader Ali Khamenei.
When asked about statements made by Trump, who said on Thursday that he should be involved in selecting the next Iranian leader, Araghchi assured that Tehran "does not allow anyone to interfere" in its internal affairs regarding choosing a successor to Khamenei.
Conversely, U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized today, on Sunday, that the new leader "would not last long" unless approved by Washington first.
Trump said to ABC News: "He will need our approval. If he doesn't get it, he won't last long," adding: "We want to ensure that we do not have to go back every 10 years, in the absence of a president like me who does not do that."
He also mentioned that "there are qualified people from the old regime to succeed Ali Khamenei," who was killed on the first day of the American-Israeli attacks on February 28.
