A Russian forgot his house window open for three years and pigeons occupied it

Khaberni - A middle-aged man from the Russian mining town of Vorkuta, recently posted a video of an apartment he owns, which quickly spread widely. The video shows dozens of pairs of pigeons lined up on the furniture as if they own the place, with the floor completely covered in droppings and feathers.

According to Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, the man left Vorkuta three years ago to work in Siberia but forgot to close one of the apartment’s windows. That was all the local pigeons needed to settle in, turning the man's home into a pigeon dwelling. The owner of the apartment is heard in the video saying: "I left Vorkuta three years ago. What happened during that time? Nests, feathers, a tremendous amount of droppings enough to pour a new floor. The pigeons look at me as if I am a tenant who is late on rent. I am not the property owner; I am an invader of a pigeon state."

The video of the destroyed apartment spread like wildfire on Russian social media, sparking a wave of humorous comments, but its owner does not seem ready to laugh. Experts estimate that the cost of renovating the apartment and replacing all the furniture ranges from one and a half to two million rubles (between 18,000 and 25,000 dollars), which is roughly its current market value.

Unfortunately, even if the man decides that renovating the apartment is feasible, he must consider the cost of making it safely habitable. According to experts, pigeons are susceptible to various diseases, including avian flu and psittacosis, so the floors and walls must be treated with special chemicals to ensure they are free of any contaminants.
