Officially Walid Regragui bids farewell to the Moroccan national team with an emotional video

Khaberni  - The coach of the Moroccan national team, Walid Regragui, announced the end of his journey at the helm of the Atlas Lions.

Regragui published today, Thursday, on his social media accounts a video in which he showcased a number of memories and significant milestones he experienced with the national team during his tenure.

Hakimi comments on Regragui's departure

Immediately after Regragui announced the end of his journey with the Moroccan national team, Paris Saint-Germain player Achraf Hakimi posted an emotional tweet on his account, saying: "Walid Regragui, thank you for the remarkable work you have done at the helm of the Moroccan national team. Your leadership, passion, and vision inspired not only the players, but also an entire country and millions of fans around the world."

He added, "Thank you for your faith in Moroccan talent, for enhancing the team spirit, and for showing that discipline, hard work, and especially sincere intentions, can achieve great accomplishments."

Hakimi concluded his post with heartfelt words saying, "You have left an unforgettable mark on the history of Moroccan football. Thank you for making us dream and carrying our colors with great pride."

Regragui's announcement comes after a controversial period, which saw the Moroccan Football Federation deny his resignation from coaching the first team three times before the start of his participation in the 2026 World Cup.

No official statement has yet been issued by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, but press reports have indicated that the expected official announcement will be released in the next few hours.

Reasons for Departure

Several reports have revealed that Regragui preferred to end his journey following the pressures that followed the loss of the final of the African Nations Cup 2025 against Senegal (1-0) last January.

Earlier, the French newspaper "L'Équipe" reported that the coach Walid Regragui and the local federation had officially terminated their cooperation, and the documents pertaining to the termination of the contract were signed.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Wahbi (former coach of the youth national team) is considered the most likely candidate to succeed him and lead the "Atlas Lions" at the 2026 World Cup.

The Journey of Walid Regragui

Regragui (50 years old), born in France, took charge of Morocco in August 2022, about three months before the World Cup held in Qatar.

Regragui led Morocco to the African Cup of Nations final for the first time since 2004, but they lost by a goal following two additional halves in a game marred by chaotic scenes.

Regragui's actual coaching career began in 2014 with Fath Rabat Club, where he excelled in building a cohesive team based on discipline and intelligent deployment, culminating his experience with winning the Moroccan League title in 2016, the club's first-ever title.
