Important Statement from the US Embassy in Jordan Warnings and Recommendations

Khaberni - The US Department of State, in a statement relayed by the US Embassy in Amman, renewed its travel advisory for Jordan, raising the advisory level to Level 3 "Reconsider Travel" because of terrorism risks and armed conflict, and ordered the departure of non-essential government employees and their families.

The Ministry clarified, according to a statement relayed by the US Embassy in Jordan, that the decision came amidst security risks, pointing to a continued threat of attacks using drones and missiles from Iran following hostilities between the United States and Iran on February 28, and significant disturbances in commercial aviation.

The Embassy confirmed "the risk of terrorist violence in Jordan, which may target tourist sites, transport hubs, markets and shopping complexes, and local government buildings, noting that despite the relative stability, the security environment remains complex and quickly changeable," according to what the Embassy published.

The Ministry urged not to travel (Level Four) to "the towns of Manshiyat Al-Ghiath, Al-Ruwaished and the border areas with Syria and Iraq, in addition to Syrian refugee camps in Jordan, and the city of Risifeh, and the Al-Baqa’a area in Ain Al-Basha, due to the risks of terrorism, crime, and entry restrictions into the camps," according to the US Embassy in Jordan.

The Embassy also recommended "reconsidering travel to the city of Zarqa, the city of Ma'an, the areas east of Highway number 15 (the Desert Road), and areas within two kilometers west of the same highway, due to terrorism and crime risks."

It emphasized that all movements of American government employees in the areas subject to restrictions must be conducted in accordance with instructions from the US Embassy and during daylight hours, with bans on personal travel to the areas classified as "do not travel".

It referred to a special federal regulation by the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) regarding risks to civil aviation in airspace near Yemen.

It called upon American citizens, in case they decided to travel to Jordan, to develop an emergency exit plan that does not rely on American government assistance, avoid gatherings and demonstrations, follow local media, enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), review country security reports, in addition to purchasing travel insurance that includes medical evacuation and trip cancellation.
