Jordanians consumed 8 million chickens in the first week of Ramadan

Khaberni - The acting general manager of the Poultry Breeders' Syndicate, Rowan Abu Adi, said that the local market consumed eight million chickens during the first week of the holy month of Ramadan, a record number that reflects the high demand during this period each year.

Abu Adi pointed out that the purchases were concentrated in the first three days, and began to decline on the fourth and fifth days, indicating that the availability of supply contributed to meeting the needs of Jordanian consumers and led to a 25% decrease in prices compared to those at the start of the holy month, according to opinions.

Abu Adi confirmed that poultry prices this Ramadan are the lowest in many years, attributing this to several factors, including production surpluses, improved efficiency, and generally good health conditions in poultry farms, which helped provide the markets with large quantities and high weights of slaughtered poultry. She added that the availability of layer chickens was significant this year, notably in remote and far areas, at reasonable and moderate prices.

Abu Adi added that many companies in commercial markets and malls offered competitive price promotions, anticipating that demand would calm down in the coming days, and expecting it to rise again at the beginning of the second half of Ramadan due to the expected activity in restaurants.

Abu Adi previously predicted that the demand for poultry would see a noticeable increase during the first five days of Ramadan due to citizens' eagerness to buy at the beginning of the month, confirming that demand would begin to decrease significantly after this period, which would positively reflect on the stabilization and balance of prices, continuing at levels suitable for consumers.
