Death and Loss of 21 Egyptians in a Capsizing of an Illegal Immigration Boat

Khaberni - The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following up on the drowning incident of an illegal immigration boat that was headed to Greece on February 21st, with 50 irregular migrants onboard, including 21 Egyptians, 18 of them are still missing, and 3 have died.

According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry today (Wednesday), Minister Badr Abdel Ati directed the Egyptian embassy in Athens to intensify its contacts with all relevant Greek authorities to follow up on the repercussions of the incident, the efforts to recover the missing, and to expedite all necessary procedures for the repatriation of the deceased back to Egypt.

The Egyptian embassy in Athens continues to receive relatives of the deceased to arrange and finalize the procedures needed to transport the bodies to the homeland as soon as possible.

The ministry once again urged citizens to exercise the utmost caution and vigilance, to not be lured by illegal immigration gangs, and to completely avoid traveling through illegal routes, regardless of the motivations, in order to ensure their safety.

The ministry extended its deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims of the tragic incident.
