UK Popular Campaign to Support ProPalestine Candidates in Local Elections

Khaberni  - Former leader of the British Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, called for support for a national popular campaign aimed at encouraging British citizens to support local candidates who favor the Palestinian cause in the 2026 local council elections.

Corbyn said in a tweet posted on his official X account, "Let's make the Palestinian issue non-negotiable in these elections."

According to the website of the "Vote for Palestine" initiative, the campaign aims to urge local council candidates to sign a pledge to support Palestine and stand against genocide and ethnic cleansing.

This allows voters to know which candidates are committed to this pledge and to direct their votes to them specifically.

Campaign organizers noted that more than 1000 local members have signed the pledge so far, with expectations that the campaign will have a tangible impact on the upcoming election results, saying, "This shows candidates that voters are aware of the seriousness of the situation, and that they will not support those who facilitate or justify genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians."

Corbyn had previously confirmed that the British public has the right to know the extent of their country's complicity in the crimes against humanity committed by Israel in Gaza.

Corbyn explained in an article in The Guardian that Britain needs an inquiry similar to the John Chilcot inquiry that was released in 2016 about Britain's disastrous war in Iraq, therefore he says, "I will introduce a special bill calling for a full, public, and independent investigation into the UK's role in the Israeli military assault on Gaza."
