Khaberni - Spanish media reports revealed that Barcelona will move to sign the Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush, star of Manchester City, during the next summer transfer window in one specific case.
Barcelona is looking for a direct striker to succeed the veteran Polish player Robert Lewandowski, who is expected to leave at the end of the current season.
Marmoush joined Manchester City in January 2025 with high ambitions, having shone with Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, but the Egyptian star's luster has faded, as he has not been getting regular playing minutes due to Erling Haaland's dominance on the frontline.
The newspaper "Sport", close to Barcelona, reported on Tuesday that Deco, the club's sporting director, has identified the positions that need reinforcement in preparation for the upcoming season, in coordination with coach Hans Flick, and the direct striker position is at the top of these positions.
Julian Alvarez, striker of Atletico Madrid, is the ideal choice for Barca, however, the Catalan club's administration is well aware that completing the deal will be extremely difficult, so it is considering alternatives.
Marmoush is one of the prominent alternatives to Alvarez
The newspaper added that Marmoush is one of the most admired names in Barcelona, as he fits Flick's style, and thus would be an ideal signing if the club fails to sign Alvarez.
Atletico Madrid has repeatedly stated that Alvarez is not for sale, however, some leaks suggest that they might consider it if an extremely large offer arrives.
The price could reach 150 million euros, a figure Barcelona does not intend to approach under any circumstances.
Only an intervention by the Argentine player requesting a move to the Catalan team could pave the way, but this has not happened yet, and remains a scenario unclear at the moment.
The club wants to be prepared, and one of the names that matches its needs sportingly is Marmoush. Barcelona closely followed him during his time with Eintracht Frankfurt, where he became one of the top scorers in the Bundesliga.
Marmoush was a considered option in case Lewandowski left after his third year in the contract, but the Egyptian striker moved to Manchester City under Pep Guardiola in January 2025 for 75 million euros.
It was a deal clearly desired by Guardiola, who saw in the player what Deco saw: a striker capable of adapting to a team that relies on clear offensive play, and moves effectively both in tight and open spaces.
