Judicial Document One Fifth of Young Users Watched Sexual Content on Instagram

Khaberni - A judicial document in California revealed that one in every five users aged between 13 and 15 years old using "Instagram" informed Meta that they saw "nude or sexual images" they did not wish to see.
The document, which was published on Friday in the context of a federal lawsuit in California, includes excerpts from a deposition given by Adam Mosseri, the CEO of the "Instagram" platform in March 2025.

"Meta", which owns "Facebook" and "Instagram", faces allegations from global leaders that the company's products harm teenage users, and in the United States, thousands of lawsuits in federal courts and state courts accuse the company of designing products that are addictive and exacerbate the mental health crisis among minors.

Mosseri stated that "the company does not generally share the results of the surveys it conducts", adding that "surveys that rely on self-reporting are known for their many problems".

Andy Stone, a spokesperson for "Meta", said that "the survey was conducted in 2021", explaining that "the statistic related to explicit images came from a survey of Instagram users about their experiences on the platform, not from a direct review of the posts themselves".

The company said in late 2025 that it "will remove images and videos that contain nudity or explicit sexual activity, including those created by artificial intelligence for teenage users, with exceptions for medical and educational content".
