Khaberni - Dr. Andrei Tarasov, Associate Professor at the Institute of Medicine and Life Sciences at the Baltic Federal University, confirmed that the most deficient vitamin in winter is Vitamin D, due to limited sun exposure.
According to him, Vitamin D deficiency is particularly severe in winter and the period following it, when sunlight is insufficient and the body expends a lot of energy adapting to the cold and frost. Many studies show that this deficiency is always present and worsens after winter.
He says, "We conducted a study to examine the Vitamin D levels of our university students in the spring, and it turned out to be much lower. The deficiency was generally present, but before spring, things were very difficult, and almost everyone was suffering from a severe deficiency."
He points out that Vitamin D is responsible, among other things, for bone health and the immune system. In the spring, when it is necessary to fight viruses and bacteria, a deficiency in this vitamin may weaken the body's immunity. Furthermore, a deficiency can lead to psychological and emotional symptoms such as anxiety and depression.
According to him, university scientists have proven that the severity of these anxiety and depression symptoms is directly linked, among other things, to a Vitamin D deficiency.
