Khaberni - Dr. Amalia Nagyieva, a digestive system diseases specialist, indicated that the skin is not just a protective barrier for the body, but it is also an important indicator of its internal health.
According to the doctor, many people do not realize that changes in the skin can indicate problems with internal organs, including the gallbladder.
The doctor explained that the gallbladder, this small vital organ, plays a major role in the digestion process, especially in fat digestion. When the gallbladder does not function properly, it may manifest on the skin, such as skin yellowing, which could be linked to various medical conditions, from gallbladder inflammation to cancer.
She added that gallbladder problems might appear in the form of jaundice, resulting from the accumulation of bilirubin in the blood, which is a substance formed during the breakdown of red blood cells. In the case of bile stagnation, the gallbladder fails to secrete bile normally, leading to skin yellowing. This could be due to gallbladder inflammation, gallstones, bile duct obstruction, tumors in the head of the pancreas or bile ducts, or tumors of the gallbladder itself. Unusual skin dryness can also indicate gallbladder problems.
Bile plays a fundamental role in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and bile acids, and helps emulsify fats to facilitate their absorption, supporting the health of the skin and tissues. The fat-soluble vitamins include:
Vitamin A (Retinol): Important for skin health, vision, and the immune system.
Vitamin D: Necessary for the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, and supports the health of bones and teeth.
Vitamin E (Tocopherol): An antioxidant that protects cells and supports skin health.
Vitamin K: Involved in blood clotting and bone health.
Dr. Nagyieva explained that dysfunction of the gallbladder, whether due to stones or inflammation, leads to poor fat absorption and a deficiency in the vitamins dissolved in it, which may appear as dryness and itching of the skin.
She emphasized that the skin is a mirror to the body's health, and therefore it is important to consult a doctor when noticing any changes in the skin, such as yellowing, rash, or unusual dryness.
She mentioned that caring for the gallbladder and addressing any issues immediately, along with a balanced diet and regular physical activity, helps maintain overall health and restore the radiance of the skin.
