Khaberni - The Saudi Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that it is observing with great concern the map of Iraq submitted to the United Nations, which encroaches on the "divided submerged area" adjacent to the Saudi-Kuwaiti borders.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry also announced that it is monitoring with great concern the lists of coordinates and the map presented by Iraq to the United Nations, which includes encroachments on large parts of the "divided submerged area" adjacent to the divided area between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
The ministry clarified that Saudi Arabia and Kuwait share ownership of natural resources in this area, based on valid agreements rooted in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Additionally, the coordinates violate Kuwait's sovereignty over its maritime areas and water heights, such as "Fasht Al-Qaid" and "Fasht Al-Aij".
Saudi Arabia renewed its outright rejection of any claims to rights by other parties in this area and emphasized the importance of Iraq's compliance with respecting Kuwaiti sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to international agreements and United Nations resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 833 of 1993, which defined the land and maritime boundaries between the two countries.
The ministry called for adherence to the language of reason, wisdom, and dialogue to resolve disputes, with serious dealings based on the principles of international law and good neighborliness.
This comes after the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry summoned the acting Iraqi charge d'affaires and delivered a note of protest due to the Iraqi maps' overstepping of Kuwaiti boundaries.
