German Interior Minister Proposes Lifting Ban on Asylum Seekers Working

Khaberni  - German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has proposed lifting the work ban imposed on asylum seekers in Germany, aiming to reduce the social expenditures allocated for their support.

According to German newspaper Bild, asylum seekers will be able to start looking for work just three months after arriving in the country, instead of waiting many months as was previously done.

Dobrindt stated in comments to the newspaper, "Anyone who comes here should have the opportunity to work as soon as possible, as the best integration is through the labor market, and the goal is participation through work."

However, a spokesperson for the minister clarified that lifting the ban does not mean that asylum seekers are obligated to seek work as soon as they arrive, indicating that it merely grants them the right without imposing any obligation.

He added: "The work ban is lifted, but there is no obligation to work."

This initiative comes in the context of a comprehensive reform of the asylum law in Germany, which is currently undergoing an in-depth review within the framework of the Common European Asylum System (GEAS).
