Palestinian Committee in the Senate Condemns Statements of the American Ambassador to Israel

Khaberni - The Palestinian Committee in the Senate, chaired by Senator Mazen Darwaza, condemned the statements made by the American Ambassador to Israel, Mike Habi, which included claims about what he called a "Torah right of Israel from the Nile to the Euphrates".

This came after a meeting held by the committee on Sunday to discuss these statements, which included claims about what he called a "Torah right of Israel from the Nile to the Euphrates", and adoption of terms and narratives that align with the extremist rhetoric in the Israeli government.

The committee considered these statements to be a dangerous precedent issued by a senior diplomatic official, constituting a clear breach of international law rules, the United Nations charter, and diplomatic conventions.

The committee affirmed that basing claims on religious interpretations or Torah texts to justify contemporary political and sovereign demands contradicts the foundations of the modern international system, undermines the principle of the illegitimacy of acquiring land by force, and represents an extremist proposal that could inflame conflicts and threaten regional and international peace and security.

The committee emphasized that such rhetoric fuels the plans for gradual annexation of the West Bank, particularly Area C, accelerates the erosion of the two-state solution, intersects with policies of forced displacement, expansion of settlements, settler attacks, demolition orders, and attempts to change the demographic composition in the occupied Palestinian territories, practices that are rejected and constitute severe violations of international humanitarian law.

The committee renewed its absolute rejection of any infringement on the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to their land and holy sites, and their right to establish their independent sovereign state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, reaffirming its confidence in the stable Jordanian position led by His Majesty King Abdullah II in defending Jerusalem and supporting the achievement of a just and comprehensive peace that ensures stability in the region.
