The Messenger of Allah - peace be upon him said: Deceptive years will come upon people, in which the liar will be believed, the truth-teller disbelieved, the traitor trusted , and the trustworthy betrayed, and the worthless talker will speak, it was asked: Who are the worthless talkers? He replied: The insignificant man who speaks in public affairs.
Ibn Taymiyyah said:- Only three halves corrupt the world: a half-learned jurist corrupts the religion, a half-competent doctor corrupts bodies, and a half-skilled linguist corrupts the language.
Indeed, Islam has forbidden that a person in office exploit his position for personal gains. The Messenger said, peace be upon him: When trust is lost, wait for the Hour.
Therefore, it is imperative that we promote the best individuals to lead, especially in sensitive positions. By doing so, the interests of the citizens generally are served, and as is known to all, the most important criteria for leadership positions are competence, trustworthiness, knowledge, and capability. When Abu Dharr al-Ghafari asked the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, why he does not employ him (appoint him to a position)? He answered: O Abu Dharr, you are weak, and it is a trust, and on the Day of Resurrection it will be a cause of disgrace and remorse unless one takes it rightfully and fulfills what is due on him in it. Reported by Muslim.
I wonder where we stand on what our noble religion urged us about the trust of holding responsibility (questioner and responsible person) and whether that has a practical effect we feel and see daily through not placing the right person in the right place, and do we have people we trust in word, knowledge, and trustworthiness to speak on our behalf and to put them forward to represent us and for us?
Or are we living in the era of the worthless talkers (heart and form) in many positions even the popular ones such that we no longer trust those who speak on our behalf (and might be chosen by us)? But they and others have lost the trust, so has the inevitable come close as stated by the Almighty in Surah An-Najm, verse 57.
