Livestock breeder Prices of local and imported meat in Jordan are expensive

Khaberni - Predicted by the president of the Livestock Breeders Association, Zaal Al-Kuwalit, on Saturday, a decrease in meat prices in the coming days due to an increase in supply and a decrease in demand.

Al-Kuwalit told Al Mamlaka channel that the decision to stop exporting live sheep to neighboring countries has stabilized meat prices with the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, and also that the import of Romanian sheep will begin in the coming days.

He explained that today's meat prices in the local market are considered expensive and are not proportional to the purchasing power of the citizens, including the imported ones.

The Ministry of Agriculture announced on Tuesday, a decision to stop exporting live sheep to neighboring countries, aiming to secure the local market’s needs for red meat, to maintain price stability, and to ensure sufficient quantities for the citizens during the holy month of Ramadan.

In the same context, the ministry clarified that new origins for importing live animals have been opened, including sheep and calves, in addition to accrediting new slaughterhouses for importing meat in various forms, from approved and healthy veterinary origins.
