Khaberni - The Grand Criminal Court issued a judgment ordering a defendant to life imprisonment with hard labor after he was convicted of intentional murder, following his deliberate running over of his friend several times with his vehicle in the southern Marka area in the capital, Amman.
The details of the incident go back to the night of Thursday, January 23, 2025, when the accused took three of his friends to visit the victim, while the accused and his companions were under the influence of alcoholic beverages.
The accused drove his vehicle at a crazy high speed of up to 100 kilometers per hour upon their arrival. He approached the victim, who had come out to greet them, ran him over, and deliberately knocked him to the ground.
The accused then reversed his vehicle at a high speed and ran over the victim again with force despite the attempts of the victim's brother and the accused's friends to stop him, then fled the scene, leaving the victim bloodied.
The forensic report indicated that the cause of death was due to severe hemorrhage in the chest and pelvic cavities, resulting from the victim striking a solid and hard object, with lung laceration and multiple rib fractures.
The main accused was convicted under Article 327/3 of the Penal Code, with the charge of intentional murder accompanied by aggravating circumstances, which necessitated a life sentence because of the proven intent of premeditated murder.
The court sentenced the other four defendants who were accompanying the perpetrator to six months in prison after convicting them of the misdemeanor of carrying and using blunt tools during the brawl associated with the incident.
The companions were also convicted of the misdemeanor of intoxication accompanied by disorder, and sentenced to three months in prison, while the court decided they were not responsible for the attempted murder charge previously assigned to them.
These verdicts were issued in-person and are subject to appeal before the competent court.
