Khaberni - The messaging app "WhatsApp" announced on Thursday the launch of the "group message log" feature, which is one of the most requested features for groups.
This feature allows group admins and members to choose to send recent messages to new members, enabling them to quickly catch up on what they've missed.
When someone new is added to a group chat, an option to send them recent messages appears, ranging from 25 to 100 messages as a maximum, according to a post by WhatsApp on its blog.
This helps keep things simple, allowing new members to only read the most recent and relevant context, and all group members can easily see the messages that have been shared.
The group message log feature remains end-to-end encrypted like all other personal messages, providing users a faster and more private way to continue conversations without needing screenshots or forwarding unnecessary messages.
WhatsApp said that, in the interest of transparency, "when sending the message log, all group members are notified, with clear timestamps and information about the sender; the message log also appears visually distinct from regular messages."
WhatsApp added that it has started gradually rolling out the group message log feature.
