Khaberni - Mattar Al Tayer, the General Manager and Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Roads and Transport Authority, announced that the commercial transport sector in Dubai recorded significant growth in 2025, exceeding 40% in the number of licensed companies compared to 2024.
According to the Emirates News Agency "WAM", Mattar Al Tayer confirmed the total number of vehicles registered in the sector rose to more than 500,000 vehicles, an increase of about 25%, and the direct contribution of the commercial transport sector to the emirate’s economy exceeded AED 8.4 billion annually.
He explained that the number of licensed commercial transport companies increased from 12,100 in 2024 to 16,917 in 2025, reflecting an expansion of the business base and increasing confidence of investors in the business environment in Dubai, and confirming the emirate's advanced position as a global hub for transport and logistics services.
He emphasized that this strong growth was driven by several key factors, most notably digital transformation, expansion of smart solutions, increasing demand for delivery services via smart applications, growth in logistics services and vehicle leasing, among other commercial transport activities, keeping pace with the rapid changes in trade patterns and supply chains.
He pointed out that the performance achieved is aligned with the targets of Dubai’s 2030 Strategy for Commercial Transport and Land Logistics, which continues to enhance the sector’s contribution to sustainable economic development and consolidates its role as a fundamental pillar within the integrated economic system of the emirate.
He explained that 2025 witnessed the launch of several quality initiatives that boosted the social and economic indicators of the sector, most notably the launch of a comprehensive regulatory framework for self-driving heavy vehicles in the logistics services sector, which supports the adoption of future technologies and enhances Dubai's competitiveness in the field of advanced transport, and the launch of the digital logistics platform “Logisti”, which achieved wide distribution and growing demand from operators and users, crowned with the "UK Ideas Award" for the best innovative idea of 2025, indicating Dubai's leadership in developing advanced digital solutions for managing logistics activities.
In support of the authority's sustainability efforts, the authority signed a partnership with a specialized company to create a network of stations for swapping the batteries of delivery bikes throughout Dubai, in support of the transition to low-emission solutions, and established a network of rest areas for delivery vehicle drivers across the emirate, enhancing traffic safety and improving the work environment.
Mattar Al Tayer said that the continuous growth in the commercial transport sector reflects the growing confidence in the business environment in Dubai and enhances the emirate’s position as a leading global center in the fields of transport and logistics services, supporting the path to sustainable economic development and consolidating the sector's role as a key driver of growth in the coming phase.
He affirmed the Roads and Transport Authority's commitment to enhancing and regulating commercial transport activities in Dubai, and to building effective strategic partnerships with the private sector, and simplifying commercial licensing procedures, supporting the visionary leadership’s goal to establish Dubai as a leading global hub for business and trade.
He added that the commercial transport sector contributes directly more than AED 8.4 billion annually to Dubai’s economy and is a fundamental pillar in the emirate’s economic system, playing a pivotal role in achieving Dubai’s economic agenda (D33) by facilitating the movement of goods, enhancing the smoothness and flow of global supply chains, boosting Dubai’s international competitiveness, and achieving positive social and environmental impacts.
Mattar Al Tayer confirmed that continuing innovation, enhancing integration between the public and private sectors, and expanding the use of technology and smart solutions, will lead the commercial transport sector to higher growth levels in the upcoming phase, enhancing Dubai's leadership in the fields of commercial transport and land logistics services, supporting the attraction of local and international investments, and enshrining the sustainability of businesses across various economic sectors.
