Khaberni - In a scene close to documentary film shots, the emergency department staff at a hospital in Bremen, northwest Germany, were surprised by a sea crow standing in front of the glass entrance, knocking insistently with its beak as if asking for help.
The injured bird, which appeared in front of "Links der Weser" hospital, carried a dangerously stuck fishing hook in its beak. According to statements from the police and fire department in Bremen, the sea crow repeatedly pecked at the emergency door until the staff noticed it, who then hurried to notify the rescue services.
Within minutes, the rescue team arrived and managed - in what was described as "excellent cooperation" with the medical team - to remove the hook from the bird's beak, clean the wound, and treat it inside the emergency department. After ensuring its condition was stable and it could fly, it was later released into the green spaces on the hospital grounds.
The fire department published photos of the bird standing at the entrance, and others showing the hook stuck in its beak, in addition to shots of the process of capturing and treating it. The German channel "ZDF" (ZDF) also broadcast a short video report documenting the incident.
A Shy Bird Turns to Humans
The sea crow is one of the large waterbirds with glossy black plumage, long neck, and sharp hooked beak. The rescue teams confirm that these birds are usually shy and avoid approaching humans, making this injured bird's self-reliance in reaching the emergency department a remarkable and unusual behavior.
The authorities warned about the danger of fishing hooks and lines getting stuck in the beaks of waterbirds, as they can cause painful infections and might lead to the bird dying of starvation if the injury prevents it from hunting and feeding.
The incident, which took minutes at a glass door, turned into a human interest story covered by the media, highlighting that emergency doors sometimes open for creatures that do not speak, but know how to ask for help.
