Garment Union Reduction in the release time of goods from 12 to 6 days

Khaberni - Sultan Allaan, the head of the General Union of Garment, Footwear, and Fabrics Traders, confirmed that the local market is witnessing a significant abundance of goods, thanks to strong preparations by importers and traders in the sector and the customs facilitations provided.

Allaan said that the sector is looking forward to a good Ramadan season, especially during the Eid al-Fitr, amidst stable price levels that meet the desires of various segments, pointing out that market activity has been moderate since the beginning of this year.

He noted that the time for goods clearance has decreased from 12 to 6 days due to the simplification of procedures by the Customs Department at major customs centers, especially in Aqaba, Amman, and the cargo airport.

He expressed his appreciation for the visits conducted by the Director-General of Customs to the customs centers prior to the peak of the holiday seasons and his follow-up on the observations from the trade sector, which contributes to facilitating the flow of goods to the local market.

Allaan clarified that the union is monitoring its first major season after the decision to impose a sales tax on mail parcels, expressing his hope that this would positively reflect on the sector.

The sector of garments, footwear, and fabrics, which is one of the largest trade sectors in the kingdom, includes about 11,000 establishments across the provinces, employing 63,000 workers from the Jordanian labor force, while there are 180 apparel and footwear brands operating and investing in the local market.
