Road Transport Comprehensive Solutions Proposed for Truck Age Issue by End of 2026

Khaberni - The President of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority, Riyadh Al-Kharabsheh, emphasized on Sunday the need for the integration of all modes of transport to ensure sustainability, stability, and prosperity, amidst the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and regional tensions.

Al-Kharabsheh added, during his talk with "Al-Mamlaka", that economic integration in the Arabian Gulf region, the Levant, Iraq, and Jordan is an irreversible choice and an unforgettable lesson.

He noted that Jordan enjoys a strategic geographical location and long-term stability, making it a main gateway for the entry of goods into regional markets through various means of transport, pointing out that the kingdom has managed to maintain the fluidity of goods movement since the beginning of the crisis, thanks to ongoing efforts by relevant authorities.

Al-Kharabsheh explained that there is ongoing coordination with neighboring countries, including Syria, Iraq, and Egypt, to face the rapidly changing daily challenges, which necessitates continuous assessment of reality and adaptation to it.

He also emphasized that the road transport sector in Jordan has decades of accumulated experience, and that the Jordanian freight fleet is distinguished in the region, serving multiple markets including Iraq and the Gulf countries and Syria, in addition to its ability to handle various types of freight, including specialized trucks.

Al-Kharabsheh talked about plans for major railway projects, particularly in the southern part of the kingdom, which will truly launch a national project, affirming that the completion of railway networks in neighboring countries, especially Saudi Arabia, contributes to facilitating regional connectivity.

He pointed out that the main challenge facing the implementation of these projects lies in financing, despite the readiness of the tracks and land acquisition for years, expressing hope for the acceleration of implementation when suitable conditions are available.

Al-Kharabsheh mentioned that the authority is working on addressing the truck age issue, expecting a proposal that includes comprehensive solutions before the end of 2026.
