Khaberni - The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, condemned on Monday the decision of the Israeli government, issued on Sunday, to resume land registration procedures in Area C of the occupied West Bank.
Guterres added, according to a statement from his spokesperson, "This decision may lead to the dispossession of Palestinians of their properties, and threatens to expand Israeli control over lands in the area", adding that the procedures are not only destabilizing but are also illegal as confirmed by the International Court of Justice.
Guterres called on the Israeli government to immediately retract these measures, warning again that the current path on the ground is undermining the prospects for a two-state solution.
He affirmed that all Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem - and the system associated with them - have no legal validity and constitute a blatant violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
He also urged all parties to preserve the only viable way to achieve lasting peace, which is the two-state solution through negotiations, in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions and international law.
