Khaberni - Veteran German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, captain of Bayern Munich, has sustained a muscle fiber tear in his left calf, threatening his participation in the highly anticipated Klassiker match against Borussia Dortmund in two weeks.
The Bavarian club announced on Sunday that Neuer was injured during the victory over Werder Bremen by three goals to none on Saturday night in the Bundesliga, and will be absent from the fields for an indefinite period.
This type of injury usually requires a treatment period of more than 14 days.
It is expected that the Bavarian team will rely on backup goalkeeper Jonas Oerbig, who replaced Neuer at halftime of the Bremen match, in the upcoming match against Eintracht Frankfurt next Saturday.
Bayern Munich leads the German league standings by six points over its direct chaser Borussia Dortmund, before their meeting on February 28th.
