Aston Villa A second financial breach threatens Nassef Sawiris ambitions

Khaberni  - Press reports revealed that the English club Aston Villa, owned by Egyptian billionaire Nassef Sawiris, is facing a significant financial penalty from the Union of European Football Associations "UEFA", due to a violation of financial sustainability rules for the second consecutive time.

The English newspaper The Times said: "Aston Villa has again exceeded the 'team cost rule' cap."

It added: "Current 'UEFA' regulations impose that the club's expenses on salaries, player transfers, and agent commissions should not exceed 70% of the club's revenues."

It continued: "This crisis comes after the European Union fined the club in July (2025) with 6 million euros for breaking the 80% ratio in the previous fiscal year, along with a conditional additional fine of 15 million euros."

The newspaper increased: "Reports indicate that the club’s massive investments in salaries and deals during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, aiming for competition in the Champions League, have made it difficult to adhere to the newly reduced ratio (70%)."

It completed: "Although the financial penalty is currently the most likely punishment, continued violation of financial rules may put the club under further pressure, possibly obligating the club to pay the 15 million euros that were suspended last year as part of a settlement agreement, and the club may face restrictions on the number of players registered in the European roster for the coming season."

It concluded: "UEFA is expected to impose a stricter financial roadmap on Nassef Sawiris' management to ensure future compliance."
