Khaberni - Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that China will cancel customs duties on its imports from almost all African countries starting from the first of May except for one country.
This decision comes as a step aimed at boosting economic cooperation and development on the continent. China had previously applied a customs exemption on imports from 33 African countries, but last year Beijing announced its intention to expand the policy to encompass all its 53 diplomatic partners in Africa.
China is considered the largest trade partner of the African continent and a major supporter of major infrastructure projects through the "Belt and Road" initiative. Eswatini, which maintains diplomatic relations with Taiwan, will be excluded from the exemption.
Xi Jinping pointed out during the African Union summit in Ethiopia that the agreement will provide "new opportunities for African development", affirming China's commitment to expanding economic relations with the continent amid global trade fluctuations.
