Khaberni - Two children perished in Najaf following a fire that erupted in their home during their parents' absence, after a candle fell on the bed and rapidly ignited the fire.
The Iraqi province of Najaf witnessed a tragic incident that claimed the lives of two children inside their home, after a sudden fire broke out while they were playing with candles in the absence of their parents.
According to the Iraqi network “964”, as reported by the Media Director of the Civil Defense, the children were alone inside the locked house at the moment the fire occurred. Their mother was not present, while the house was locked by their father. He explained that the falling of a candle on the bed led to quick ignition, causing the flames to spread rapidly throughout the place in a short time.
The local residents and neighbors attempted to intervene to save the children, but the locked house prevented them from entering. After the arrival of the Civil Defense teams, the fire was extinguished; however, the children had already died, affected by the fire.
The official noted that negligence was a primary cause of the incident, emphasizing the importance of not leaving children unsupervised, and keeping sources of flame and flammable materials out of their reach, to avoid the recurrence of such tragic incidents.
