Agreement to Activate Cooperation Between the Business Communities in Jordan and Syria

Khaberni - The Jordanian Businessmen Association and the Syrian Businessmen and Businesswomen Association have renewed an agreement to reactivate joint cooperation, affirming the memorandum of understanding signed in the capital, Damascus, in 2009 to enhance joint coordination that serves and broadens the scope of mutual relations and benefits the economic interests of both Jordan and Syria.

The agreement signed on the sidelines of the Jordanian-Syrian Investment Forum, which was held in Damascus, aims to enhance economic, commercial, and investment cooperation between businessmen and investors from both sides and to develop joint projects across various economic sectors of mutual interest.

The agreement stipulates cooperation between the two parties in organizing events, conferences, and forums that serve the development of joint relations among the members of both sides, and increase communication and acquaintance between them, providing possible facilitation in this field, and encouraging members from both sides to participate in these events.

The agreement, which was signed by Ayman Al-Alaouni, President of the Jordanian Businessmen Association, and Haitham Joud, President of the Syrian Businessmen and Businesswomen Association, aims to exchange information about trade and investment laws and other issues of interest to businessmen in both countries.

In the presence of the Syrian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Abdulsalam Haykal, and the Jordanian Ambassador to Syria, Dr. Sofyan Al-Qudah, and the Jordanian delegation participating in the forum, the agreement includes cooperation in holding joint seminars and workshops within an agreed-upon convention and properly to achieve a specific goal agreed upon by both parties.

Under the agreement, both parties will take all necessary measures to put the memorandum of understanding into effect to achieve common goals, in addition to providing support and assistance to business delegations and commercial missions from both sides and providing all necessary facilities for them.

It is noteworthy that the business forum organized by the Jordanian Businessmen Association in cooperation with the Syrian Businessmen and Businesswomen Association in Damascus was attended by a crowd of business owners and companies from both countries across various commercial, service, and industrial sectors.

The forum was attended by the Syrian Minister of Finance, Muhammad Yasir Barniyah, the Syrian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Abdulsalam Haykal, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdulkader Al-Husri.

The Jordanian Businessmen Association, established in 1985, aims to create a suitable climate for investment activities enabling the private sector to play its role in the sustainable economic development process in the kingdom and serve its members from the business community across different sectors.

The Syrian Businessmen and Businesswomen Association was established in 2007 to enhance communication between the private sector and governmental entities, support a free economic environment, and encourage production and investment in Syria.
