Trump Announces Intention to Visit Venezuela and Praises Interim President

Khaberni  - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that the relationship between the United States and Venezuela is "very good" and he is determined to visit, without setting a date for this visit.

Trump told reporters at the White House: "I will visit Venezuela", and added "We have a very good relationship with the President of Venezuela", and continued "The relationship we have now with Venezuela I rate it ten out of ten".

Trump indicated that the United States is "working very closely" with the interim Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez regarding access to oil.

When asked if he would recognize Rodríguez as the official head of government, the U.S. president said: "Yes, we have done that. We are dealing with them, and in fact, they have been doing a great job so far".

Trump's praise for the Venezuelan interim president followed the United States' arrest of the detained Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in January, and as his administration seeks to enhance oil deals in the country.

Officials in the Trump Administration recently clarified that the United States does not recognize the legitimacy of Rodríguez's interim government.

U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright - during a visit to Venezuela on Thursday - said Rodríguez is "the interim president" working with the United States.

Wright said in an interview with "CNN" that the United States will not "dictate what Delcy's future role will be" in any potential upcoming elections, considering that this decision belongs to the Venezuelan people.

For her part, Rodríguez said she received an invitation to visit the United States, and noted in an interview with "NBC News" that the two countries are now working on an energy agenda that benefits both parties, described Maduro as "the legitimate president" of Venezuela, and confirmed his and his wife's innocence of the charges attributed to them.
